2. Controller and ownership

Who we are and who owns the platform

World Scholars Arena is a product of Alexia Network LLC, founded by Atem Astor Tangap. Many well-known consumer apps are products of a single parent company that owns the brand, the technology and the intellectual property, and that is the accountable party for user data. WSA works the same way: Alexia Network LLC is the parent company and the data controller, and World Scholars Arena is a product within the Alexia Network LLC family.

Data controller (GDPR Article 4(7), UK GDPR, and equivalent laws): Alexia Network LLC, United States.

Business under the CCPA/CPRA and comparable state laws: Alexia Network LLC.

Privacy contact: atastor@alexianetwork.com

Website: https://alexianetwork.com/

All platform systems, algorithms, content, marks and branding, including the names and logos of Alexia Network LLC and World Scholars Arena, are the exclusive intellectual property of Alexia Network LLC. Nothing in this policy transfers any ownership to a user.

3. Where WSA runs

Platforms, devices and app stores

World Scholars Arena is distributed worldwide through the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad, and through Google Play for Android. Players also use WSA on and alongside computers running Windows, Apple and Google software. This policy applies equally on every device, operating system and browser you use to reach the Platform.

When you download WSA, Apple or Google acts as an independent controller of the information it collects about your purchase, download and device under its own privacy policy. We do not control those stores. We receive from them only the information needed to operate the app, such as aggregate installation and diagnostic reports. Your device’s operating system, whether Apple, Google or Windows, also processes information under its own terms.

WSA is a free, public educational platform accessible worldwide. Use of the Platform is lawful only where the laws of your country permit it, as stated in the Terms of Service.

We do not knowingly collect precise location, government identification, payment card numbers, or biometric data to operate the game. If we ever need such data, we will tell you first and, where the law requires, obtain your consent.

Your username and leaderboard position may be visible to other players because ranking is a core feature of the Platform. Your email address is never shown on the leaderboard.

5. Downloads

Downloads and advertising measurement

Our download page at worldscholarsarena.com/apple sends visitors to the App Store or Google Play. To measure whether our advertising brings players to the Platform, the page records when a visitor selects a store button. That record can include the store chosen, the time, IP address, referring page, campaign parameters (UTM values) and the Google Ads click identifier (gclid). It does not include your name or email address. The same measurement runs on our homepage (worldscholarsarena.com) and on this policy page, wherever a store button appears.

  • These pages use the Google tag with Consent Mode. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, advertising measurement is off until you accept it in the banner. You can change your choice at any time with the “Advertising choices” link on the page, or by clearing this site’s stored data in your browser.
  • We receive a notification each time a store button is selected, so we can monitor the health and integrity of our advertising.
  • A click is a measure of interest, not a confirmed installation.
  • Where a law such as the California Consumer Privacy Act treats advertising measurement as “sharing” or “targeted advertising,” you may opt out by writing to us (see section 13).

6. Purposes and legal bases

How we use information and why

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on the legal bases below (Article 6). Other laws are addressed in section 18.

Send daily challenge emails and service emails to active usersContract and legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(b), 6(1)(f)); see section 7

Improve performance, accuracy and the player experienceLegitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f))
Comply with law, respond to lawful requests, establish or defend legal claimsLegal obligation and legitimate interests

We do not make decisions about you that produce legal or similarly significant effects through solely automated processing, apart from the automated detection of bots and invalid email addresses described in section 8, which you may contest by contacting us.

7. Email

Email communications

We email active users daily, and we reserve the right to do so. Daily emails are a core part of World Scholars Arena. They carry your daily challenges, program updates, ranking and prize information, and important account and security notices.

What you may receive

  • Service emails: a welcome message, account and security notices, prize and winner notifications, and policy or terms updates.
  • Daily program emails: the Daily Math Problem, the IQ Word Challenge, Two Words of the Day, trivia, and leaderboard updates for active users.
  • Platform announcements: new features, events and related products from Alexia Network LLC.

Your choices

  • You may ask us to stop non-essential email at any time by writing to atastor@alexianetwork.com. We act on opt-out requests promptly and in any event within ten business days, consistent with the CAN-SPAM Act.
  • While your account exists, we may still send service, security and prize emails, because they are necessary to operate your account and to reach winners.
  • Deleting your account ends all email from us, apart from a final confirmation and any message legally required.

Email law

Our email practices are designed to meet the CAN-SPAM Act (15 U.S.C. § 7701 et seq.; 16 C.F.R. Part 316) in the United States; the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 and the Data Protection Act 2018 in the United Kingdom; Article 13 of the ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC) and the GDPR in the European Economic Area; Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (S.C. 2010, c. 23); and comparable laws elsewhere, including Australia’s Spam Act 2003. Where a law requires prior consent for a category of message, we rely on your consent for that category.

8. Email validity and deletion

Valid email and account deletion

Read this carefully

A valid email is required, as it is the only way to reach winners. Accounts with invalid emails are deleted almost immediately to keep the platform secure and compliant.

We delete accounts in the following situations. Deletion of an account is highly likely to be for one of these reasons:

  • Invalid email delivery. Messages to the address on the account bounce or fail after multiple delivery attempts.
  • Prevention of scams and bots. The account, or its email address, shows signs of fraud, impersonation, scripted sign-ups, disposable or fabricated addresses, or other automated activity. These accounts may be deleted immediately, without prior notice.
  • Violations of the Terms. Manipulation of rankings, abuse, or conduct that compromises the integrity of the Platform.
  • Your request. You may delete your account at any time.

These measures protect honest players, keep the leaderboard fair, and make sure a prize can actually reach its winner. They also support our obligations to maintain accurate data (GDPR Article 5(1)(d)) and appropriate security (Article 32).

What deletion means

  • Your account and the personal data associated with it are permanently deleted, and your leaderboard record is removed.
  • We may keep limited information where the law requires it, where it is needed to establish or defend legal claims, or where it is needed to prevent abusive re-registration. Such information is kept only as long as necessary.
  • Deletion cannot be undone. To play again, you must register a new account with a valid email address.

9. Disclosure

Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell personal data and we do not rent it. We disclose information only as follows:

RecipientWhy
Infrastructure and hosting providersTo run and secure the Platform under written data-processing terms.
Email delivery and authentication servicesTo send welcome, daily, security and prize emails.
Apple, Google and other app and operating system providersTo distribute the app and receive installation and diagnostic reports. They act under their own policies.
Google Ads (download page, homepage and this page)To measure advertising, subject to your consent choices (see section 5).
Professional advisers, insurers and auditorsUnder duties of confidentiality.
Courts, regulators and law enforcementWhen required by law or to protect rights, safety and security.
A successor to Alexia Network LLCIn a merger, financing, acquisition or sale of assets, with this policy continuing to apply.

10. Retention

Retention

We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purposes in this policy, including to maintain your account, to run monthly prizes, to meet legal, accounting and security obligations, and to resolve disputes. When an account is deleted, the data is erased or irreversibly de-identified, subject to section 8. Security and email delivery logs are kept for a limited period needed to detect abuse and diagnose problems.

11. Security

Security and breach response

We use technical and organizational measures appropriate to the risk, including encryption, access controls, monitoring, integrity validation, and restrictions on who can reach administrative systems. No online service can guarantee absolute security, and you are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential.

If a breach affects your personal data, we will notify you and regulators as the law requires. These laws include Arizona Revised Statutes §§ 18-551 and 18-552, the data breach laws of other U.S. states (for example N.Y. Gen. Bus. Law § 899-aa), GDPR Articles 33 and 34, and equivalent laws in the United Kingdom and elsewhere.

12. Your rights

Your rights worldwide

We extend the core rights below to every player, in every country, whether or not your local law requires it. Where your local law gives you more, you have more.

  • Access a copy of your personal data.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Delete your data and your account.
  • Restrict or object to certain processing, including processing for our legitimate interests.
  • Port your data in a commonly used, machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier lawful processing.
  • Opt out of non-essential email, and of any sale, sharing or targeted advertising.
  • Be free from retaliation for exercising your rights.

United States

Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws, including California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas and Oregon, have the rights to know, access, correct, delete, obtain a portable copy, and opt out of the sale of personal data, targeted advertising and certain profiling, together with the right to appeal a refusal. We do not sell personal data. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal data of anyone under 16. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes beyond those the law permits.

California. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.100 et seq.), you may request to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we hold, and the sources, purposes and recipients. Under the California Online Privacy Protection Act (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code §§ 22575 to 22579) we state how we respond to browser signals: we treat a request sent to us in writing as the way to opt out, and the Platform itself does not track you across other websites. Under Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.83 you may request information about disclosures to third parties for their direct marketing; we make none. Under Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code § 22581, a California resident under 18 who is a registered user may request removal of content they posted.

Arizona. WSA is governed by Arizona law. Arizona has not enacted a comprehensive consumer privacy statute of the kind listed above, and we provide the same rights to Arizona residents voluntarily. Arizona’s breach notification statutes (A.R.S. §§ 18-551 and 18-552) apply to us.

United Kingdom

Under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and rights relating to automated decision-making. Our email follows the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003. You may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). Where we process UK personal data outside the United Kingdom, we use the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or another lawful transfer mechanism.

European Economic Area and Switzerland

Under the GDPR (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) you have the rights in Articles 15 to 22, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to withdraw consent. In Switzerland the revised Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) gives you equivalent rights. You may complain to the supervisory authority in your country of residence, place of work or the place of the alleged infringement.

The rest of the world

We honor the rights given by the laws of your country, including those listed in section 18: for example in Canada (PIPEDA and Quebec’s Law 25), Brazil (LGPD), Australia (Privacy Act 1988), New Zealand (Privacy Act 2020), Japan (APPI), South Korea (PIPA), Singapore (PDPA), India (DPDP Act 2023), South Africa (POPIA), Nigeria (NDPA 2023), Kenya (Data Protection Act 2019), Ghana (Data Protection Act 2012) and the United Arab Emirates (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021). Where your country has no specific law, the rights in this section still apply to you.

13. Making a request

How to exercise your rights

  1. Delete your account yourself, instantly, at the secure account portal.
  2. For any other request, email atastor@alexianetwork.com from the address registered to your account. State your country and the right you wish to exercise.
  3. We may need to verify your identity before acting. We will not ask for more than is needed.
  4. We respond within 30 days, and within the shorter or longer periods your law prescribes (for example 45 days under the CCPA, extendable once, and one month under the GDPR, extendable by two months for complex requests). We tell you if we need more time and why.
  5. An authorized agent may act for you with your written permission.

Appeals. If we refuse a request, you may appeal by replying to our decision with the word “Appeal.” We answer within the period your law requires, and tell you how to contact your regulator, including the Arizona Attorney General (azag.gov), the attorney general of your state, the Federal Trade Commission (ftc.gov), or your national data protection authority.

14. Children and students

Children, students and schools

World Scholars Arena is an education platform, and we take the protection of young people seriously.

  • Under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without verifiable parental or guardian consent, as required by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (15 U.S.C. §§ 6501 to 6506; 16 C.F.R. Part 312). If we learn that we hold such data without consent, we delete it. Parents and guardians may contact us to review or delete their child’s data.
  • Digital age of consent. In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, a child must meet the digital age of consent in their country (between 13 and 16 under GDPR Article 8, and 13 in the United Kingdom) or have a parent or guardian authorize the processing.
  • Teens. We do not sell or share the personal data of anyone under 16.
  • Schools. WSA is a consumer platform and is not operated on behalf of schools or school districts. We therefore are not a school official under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 U.S.C. § 1232g), and we do not knowingly receive education records protected by it. Student privacy laws aimed at school service providers, such as California’s Student Online Personal Information Protection Act (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code § 22584), apply only where a site or service is used primarily for K-12 school purposes. Educators who wish to use WSA in class should contact us first.
  • No advertising to children. We do not use gameplay data to build advertising profiles of children.

15. International transfers

International transfers

Alexia Network LLC is based in the United States, and WSA is a global platform. Your information is therefore processed in the United States and in other countries where our providers operate, which may have different data protection laws from yours.

When we transfer personal data out of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on a lawful mechanism under GDPR Chapter V (Articles 44 to 49) and equivalent laws, such as an adequacy decision, the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or, where it applies, your explicit consent. For transfers from other countries, such as Brazil, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia and others, we apply the safeguards their laws require. You may ask us for a copy of the relevant safeguards by writing to the contact address in section 20.

16. Cookies

Cookies and similar technology

The WSA portal is a static page that runs no scripts and sets no cookies. Advertising measurement is used on the download page (/apple), on the homepage and on this policy page. They store your consent choice in your browser’s local storage and, when you accept, the Google tag may set cookies or similar identifiers for advertising measurement. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland this happens only after you accept, as required by Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive and PECR Regulation 6. Mobile apps may use the advertising and device identifiers provided by Apple or Google, which you can reset or restrict in your device settings.

17. Prizes

Prize program data

World Scholars Arena may award monthly prizes to top-ranked players. Winners are contacted by email, so the email on the account must be valid. To award a prize we may ask winners to confirm their identity, age, country of residence and eligibility, and to provide information needed to deliver the prize and to meet tax, sweepstakes, sanctions and consumer protection laws. We use this information only for those purposes. A winner who cannot be reached because of an invalid email may forfeit the prize. See the Terms of Service for the rules of the prize program.

18. Legal framework
